The red Chicago stars represent four distinct events in Chicago's history: Fort Dearborn, The Great Chicago Fire, The World's Columbian Exposition, and the Century of Progress Exposition. The top blue stripe represents Lake Michigan and the North branch of the Chicago River. The bottom blue stripe represents the South branch of the Chicago river and canal.

Great sweatshirt
I bought this for my teen son who loves it. Very comfy and he likes the distressed Chicago flag look. I was concerned with the unisex sizing, but I ordered him a large (he is 5'10" and medium build) and it worked perfectly. Certainly visit the shop if you are in Chicago. They have a lot of fun Chicago themed items.
